Hello, my name is Rui Kikuchi.
I’m a Kyoto native with a passion for storytelling, cultural heritage, and building meaningful connections with the local community. Don’t worry—I’m fluent in English and lead engaging tours in a clear, mid-Atlantic American accent.

I’m also the author of Why Do Japanese People…? (published under the pen name Rumi Kobayashi), a book that explores Japanese culture, history, and traditions through personal stories. It shows how Japanese philosophy and daily life can inspire self-awareness and professional growth.

For me, culture isn’t just a passion—it’s a way of life. I wear traditional Japanese clothing daily and work as an artist and craftswoman, creating jewelry and artworks using time-honored techniques and materials. My studio, Atelier Rubijoux, is located in a classic Kyoto nagaya townhouse just south of the World Heritage Site Ryoan-ji Temple.

If you’re looking for a truly local experience—one where you’re welcome to ask thoughtful, even challenging questions—I’d be honored to guide you. I love conversations that go beyond the surface and bring people together through curiosity and insight.
