Loved it. Excellent balance between culture and sake enjoying leisure. Id do it all again
With my tour guide Mariana this tour consisted of visiting Tofuku-ji, Fushimi Inari, and the sake district of Fushimi. Each of Tofuku-ji and Fushimi Inari are heavenly. Anyone considering taking this tour would be for a great experience in these places and I strongly recommend this. If time allows sake testing in the Fushimi district is a very good way of ending the tour at some very old distilleries.
Jake was an exceptional guide who transformed my visit to Kyoto into one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had. We explored ancient shrines, peaceful gardens, and tucked-away places that felt untouched by tourism. He knew every scenic shortcut and the ideal moments to see each site at its most beautiful. I learned so much from him—not only about history but about daily life in Kyoto. His attention to detail and genuine care made me feel completely at ease and deeply grateful for the day we shared.
This tour is so unique because you get to experience some areas that tourists don’t always go to, such as the the area famous for sake brewing and a Buddhist temple with beautiful gardens. It was great to see both a shrine and a temple on one tour to learn how the Shinto and Buddhist traditions are intertwined. The sake stroll component has so much history and interesting sakes to taste. It was helpful to have a tour guide present to help translate when needed and to share more about the customs. While the inari shrine was very crowded, our guide was able to bring us to areas that weren’t as busy and shared great historical facts.
